Incredibly stale script making even great actors delivering it still impossible to take seriously. I thought I was watching a school play, there was genuine laughter in the theater several times. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">When did any of the SW movies have interesting scripting. It was never about the dialogue and only tangentially about the story. SW was and is about special effects.

That's what I was talking about with the classic Sci Fi's: One Step Beyond, The Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, etc. You want a story, read the "Dune" books. You'll be challanged, but you won't be sorry.

just saw it, flipped my "intellectual know-it-all smart ass" bit and enjoyed it for what it was, a Star Wars flick. But I also like David Lynch's Dune, FWIW.

I thought Hayden Christensen had the best performance in the thing, save for some wierd dubbing and voice cracking at the end. That's Lucas's fault. he made me believe he was strong in the force thing and talented but also mentally cracked. Maybe he wasn't acting regarding the former. Anakin was mentally unstable, the result of his upbringing as a slave, for Padme not to see that he was completely bonkers was pretty ridiculous.

Plus, how can it have been so bad with The Emperor, the frickin Emperor revealing himself and then killing Jedi's? Come on, that was awesome.

The story arc was good, the script was terrible.

It makes sense, his transformation into Vader, his instability turned him into it. This part of the film was solid and the actor was pretty subtle with it. I mean, that's the point of this whole damn story, Vader going to the Dark Side and his reason for doing it. He was talented and nuts. I liked seeing him being put into the vader suit and finding his feet in it.

The opening sequence was pretty friggin incredible.

I don't see the whole Natalie Portman as a good actress thing, other than she is a babe...she lost the will to live? WTF? Terrible.

It was a helluva lot better than ROTJ, which I never really liked. I saw SW and ESB about 20x each when they came out in the 70's.

I'll probably see it again. It might get better with repeated viewings or get worse, hard to say.

SW is more about the action & SFX than anything, the fun fast-paced action-&-fluff stuff, but it's also about the age-old "good vs. evil" premise, no rocket [spacecraft] science there. ;c)

I think SWs just echoes real life in general...but with a lot more action & fantasy elements, & less boredom. Good to make ya forget 'cher real life BS for about a couple of hours to watch someone else's... ;c)

ok, so i go a second time to see episode III cuz my best friend hadn't seen it. to make a long story short, if you liked it the first time do you yourself a favor and don't watch it a second time. i couldn't believe i was falling asleep! i heard it made something like 300 million so far? (espn of all stations)

i'm so confused i don't know WHAT to make of this flick. then again, there are far more important things to worry about.

Like what in the hell is the deal with natalie Portman's eyebrows? Did they put those things in with CGI? They were freaking me out, all moving around and wiggling like earthworms.

She was either crying or wigglin gher eyebrows.

I still think Lucas pussed out and didn't have Anakin kill her, hell, the guy killed scores of kids.

OK, just saw it for the 1st. [img]wink.gif[/img]

A gtrst friend of mine [akin to Flitcraft to Holmes ;c)] was given a gift certificate for the theater by the parents of 1 of his gtr students for Cmas; he held onto it & called me to see if i wanted to go. So I didn't have to violate my "non-support of the majority of Hollywood crap in general" credo [img]tongue.gif[/img] The Bubble doesn't need any more $$ thrown into it, but that's entirely another argument ;cp]

Fun stuff. I enjoyed it. Action action action packed, Fantastic epic panoramic scenes & SFX, of course. Yoda's CGI facial features were very well done, for starters.

The 1 thing to me that was a little weird tho, was buildiing up the guy Anakin for almost the first 2/3rds of the flick as a real good, moral, & ethical, & honest character who suddenly does a complete flip to evil, & then hacking up & murdering little children. Disturbing, for I don't feel that any person who is good can ever make that kind of an extreme turn; they have to have the element of evil there from early on to do so. Unless he was putting on a good face/charade, fronting the whole time, which he is not, as he is struggling with realizing his goodness. A murderer of innocents cannot be a good person, ever. [OK, no need to turn this into a boring, pointless, twisting, useless philosophical, semantical, rhetorical discussion at this point about what i just said.]

They did take some liberties with reality in tying some very loose ends together for the sake of making it fit the movie, didn't they...but it's fantasy, isn't it FCOL.

But to really enjoy this stuff, one shouldn't get all deep & philosophical about Star Wars[!] [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img] , taking it too seriouisly as if it's more one's reality than actual reality itself, & just enjoy it for what it is, a fantasy adventure in sight & sound with a loose basis in moral, ethical, 'spiritual,' & philosophical reality! It's not higher philosophy & education, or rocket science - it's a movie; f'n Star Wars, for crying out loud! ;cp [albeit visually & aurally very well done!]

And yes, there was some rather contrived dialogue wasn't there... ;cp

I will not be going back to the theaters to see it a second time, the next time will be on DVD whenevr that may be at some point down the long road, if it happens as such! ;cp

Henry, I'm with ya on the Outer Limits, One Step Beyond, Twilight Zone, [Night Gallery, Night Stalker, whatnot], & Star Trek TV shows, altho you'd be hard-pressed to impress today's younger movie/TV/vid-games crowd with those old shows! Eh, wth do they know, they missed out on the real formative "be-bop" sci-fi & horror TV years!! ;cp I grew up on the old reruns of those shows. They were, aft all, a little b4 MY time AW... ;c)

But again, fun fast-paced stuff if you suspend your disbelief for 2+1/2 hrs of your life.
